Sustainable investments (ESG) are becoming more and more relevant in the asset management world.
This conference will consider how these investments can bring both benefit for the society, and an improvement of the risk profile and performance of a portfolio
We will also analyse the adoption of ESG criteria in Italy and see how the different players use these strategies within their portfolios.

Paul Smith, CFA has more than 25 years of relevant financial services leadership experience in many aspects of the investment management industry. Smith joined CFA Institute in 2012 as managing director for Asia Pacific, overseeing its expansion into China and India. He later assumed leadership of the organization’s Institutional Partnerships division, which is responsible for engagement with employers, institutions, and regulators in the global investment industry. He was appointed president and CEO in January 2015. Smith is based in Hong Kong. Smith is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, and worked as an auditor at Pricewaterhouse in London for four years early in his career. He holds a master’s degree in history from Oxford University and earned the CFA charter in 2001.

Lorenzo joined the PRI in 2009. He is responsible for the PRI’s global outreach and signatory relations strategy. Prior to his current role, Lorenzo led the Implementation Support, Investor Engagements and Reporting and Assessment teams. Before joining the PRI, he held project manager and financial analyst roles at UniCredit and MicroRate, overseeing microfinance initiatives and advising on responsible investments. He also served as an independent consultant for development organisations such as the World Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). He holds a BA in Business and Economics from the Università Cattolica, Milan, and a joint MBA/Masters in International Public Policy from SDA Bocconi, Milan and SAIS – Johns Hopkins, Washington, D.C.

Maria Lilli is a Senior Consultant at MSCI ESG Research working in the Client Coverage team. She is responsible for the overall relationship with some of the leading Pension Funds and Asset Managers across Europe, who integrate ESG analysis in their research and investment processes. Prior to joining MSCI, Maria worked as analyst looking at sustainability issues within the think-tank Accountability. She also worked as lawyer at the French Anti-Trust Authority and lectured at Nanterre University. Maria holds a LLM in European Competition Law from Paris-Assas University, and a Master degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics.

Giancarlo Fragomeno joined Valeur Asset Management in January 2018 after 9 years of investment banking in Paris and London. He started his professional career in Project Finance on the Oil & Gas team in BNP Paribas in Paris and in 2009. Then he moved to London where he joined Commerzbank AG, where for 8 years he was involved in structuring and distributing investment solutions and strategies based on different asset classes, ranging from equity derivatives to commodities and credit. Since 2015 I’ve developed ethical/sustainable investment strategies often based on ESG analysis. In 2016 Giancarlo became the head of the Private Bank Sales Southern Europe team, and at the end of 2017 he decided to leave Commerzbank to join Valeur Asset Management to develop and launch their first sustainable fund, Hearth Ethical Fund, a balanced UCITS V fund investing in developed countries. He graduated from Ca Foscari University in Venice with a master degree in Business Administration and from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce de Paris with specialization in Finance. He lives and works in London.

Lucia Meloni holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Economy and a Master's Degree in Economics and Finance from the LUISS Guido Carli University (with honors). She is Italian and French native speaker. She’s also fluent in English and Spanish.
